EU Calls on Russia, Belarus to Solve Gas Dispute
08/03/2007 - 00:24 / http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2717241,00.html
The European Commission on Wednesday urged Russia and Belarus to seek an amicable solution to their latest dispute over energy supplies, which could also affect gas deliveries to western Europe. The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom said it would reduce gas supplies to its neighbor by 45 percent beginning on Friday due to outstanding Belarusian debt after a doubling of gas prices had caused Minsk to fall $456 million (333 million euros) behind on its payments in recent months.
