This position is confirmed in the letters that we have recently received from Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner for External Relations, and Urmas Paet, Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs. comments: 0

Third Way’s Statement on the Status of Belarusian and Russian Languages, and National Symbolic in Belarus 10/22/2007 - 16:52 / Third WayWe stand for the total support of gradual nonviolent spreading of Belarusian language as a language of Belarusian higher education institutes and educational elite, and finally as the dominant language of communication in Belarus. At the same time, we clearly understand that Russian language is a language of everyday and business life for millions of Belarusians and stand for its preservation as a special status language (but not state status) and we are against any forms of discrimination of its speakers in the country. comments: 0

Give Lukashenka His Own LuNet! 10/02/2007 - 23:29 / Sami Ben GharbiaThe use of the Internet is already restricted in Belarus. According to the OpenNet Initiative report on internet filtering in Belarus, most cybercafés require users to show identification and keep the logs of their online activity. In reaction to Lukashenko’s comments, Belarusian activists from the online community “Third Way” have joined forces and launched the LuNet campaign to raise awareness about the threats to the online free speech that a new media law presently in the works could represent. The LuNet campaign comprises the following: the LuTube video-sharing website, LuJournal blogging platform, Lundex search engine, and a web portal tut.lu. comments: 0

Belarusian KGB’s Plot: Third Way Coordinator Detained in Russia to be Extradited to Belarus on Political Charges 03/28/2007 - 21:25On March 25, 2007 Andrey Abozau, technical coordinator of the Third Way, was arrested by Russian police on his way back to Estonia. Andrey was taken off the Moscow—Tallinn train. Policemen who detained Andrey told him that he was in federal search in Russia, as he is in search in Belarus due to his political activities. As it turned out Andrey was searched only on this particular destination of the Russian railroad. All this allows to think that there are insiders from Belarusian KGB working in Russian police who organized took part in plotting Andrey’s arrest using as a pretext Russian federal search. comments: 0

Belarus of My Dream 01/19/2007 - 04:40Third Way means realistically evaluated national interests grounded on economic, political, cultural, informational, scientific and military potential of the country that are consistently and purposefully asserted by professionals. The goal to maximally develop this potential in on the shoulders of Belarusian people that delegates via democratic procedures the rights to rule the country to a responsible, ethical, and professional national elite. To be the national elite is not a privilege but a responsibility of those who care about the future of their country, the future of Belarus. comments: 3

Cartoons of the Third Way Belarus Internet Community as a Threat to the Dictatorship in Belarus 12/26/2006 - 04:43 / Ganna SamyakinaBelarus today is a unique spot on the map of Europe where the dictatorship continues to tighten its grip. Political leaders and activists have been the targets of repressions for over a decade. The regime does not limit its oppressive actions only against the most prominent political opponents, such as ex-candidate for president Aliaksandr Kazulin, political party leader Stankevich, or the leader of the youth branch of Belarusian Popular Front party Seviarynets—civil society activists are in danger too. comments: 0

Talking or acting: it’s up to every person to decide 12/19/2006 - 21:23 / Hiaorhij PlashchynskiPresidential elections took place in Belarus in March 2006. Pretty interesting elections should I say, quite tasteful. Belarus has never had such elections (if considering them together with events which happened shortly after). The whole body of progressive democratic youth took part in civil struggle: flash mobs, samizdat (clandestine copying and distribution of government-suppressed information or other media, made generally by typing), cultural and charitable tours, political statements and new initiatives. Everything was spinning and whirling, everybody felt obligated to make something for the New Belarus, which seemed to be so close. comments: 0
