CIS Election Observers Meet with Opposition Coalition Leaders
09/02/2008 - 21:30 / Naviny.byTop members of the CIS observation mission for Belarus’ parliamentary elections met with leaders of the country’s major opposition coalition, United Pro-democratic Forces, in Minsk on September 2.
As a spokesman for the CIS Executive Committee told BelaPAN, the observers informed the politicians about the team’s activities and their intermediate findings.
The meeting was reportedly attended by Anatol Lyabedzka, leader of the United Civic Party, and Syarhey Kalyakin, chairman of the Belarusian Party of Communists.
The coalition currently considers withdrawing from the elections, set for September 28, accusing the authorities of widespread abuse of election regulations and failure to create equal conditions for all parliamentary hopefuls.
