European Commission and Estonian MFA ready for cooperation and support

The European Community supports the ideas and actions taken by «The Third Way», as well as by the newly established in March 2008 Congress of the New Belarusian Diaspora in Europe and the US. This position is confirmed in the letters that we have recently received from Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner for External Relations, and Urmas Paet, Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In her letter which was dated 5 June 2008 and addressed to the Coordinating Body of the Congress, Benita Ferrero-Waldner wrote, in particular:
«I congratulate you on setting up a network of Belarusian citizens living outside Belarus. I believe it is necessary to bring together all forces in favor of democratisation».

Her letter, as well as Mr.Paet’s address are not only limited by words of support and importance of working with the young generation of citizens living in Belarus and outside the country. They also contain practical recommendations and useful networking contacts.

The First Democratic Congress of the New Belarusian Diaspora of Europe and the US took place in Tallinn 1-4 March 2008. The delegates from 25 organisations, parties and activists groups of young Belarusian citizens who live and work today in Belarus, European countries and the US, as well as some honorary guests representing the older generation of the Belarusian diaspora and cultural elite, participated in the event.
