Unless we can make the philosophic foundation of a free society once more a living intellectual issue, and its implementation a task which challenges the ingenuity and imagination of our liveliest minds, the prospects of freedom are indeed dark.

Belarusian sugar refineries are at the brake of bankruptcy

02/28/2007 - 20:52 / charter97.org

Sales of their product remain acute to Belarusian sugar producers; Interfax was reported at the “Belgospischeprom” concern. Taking into account low level of sugar deliveries to Russia, the manufacturers are busy with searching new channels for selling their output”, it was stressed at the concern.

They also pointed out at the concern that the previous procedure of the Belarusian sugar delivery to Russia remains: the shipment is imported through a single warehouse at the Moscow customs and has to be totally unloaded for identification of its origin. Daily not more than 6 carriages are let through the customs, it was stressed at the concern. For the period of January-February 2007 only 5 thousand tons of Belarusian sugar came to Russia.

Meanwhile, large amount of product has remained unrealized at the manufactures. They mentioned at the “Belgospischeprom” concern that by the middle of February all sugar refineries finished sugar beetroot processing. 3.4 million tons out of the 2006 yield were processed, thus exceeding the 2005 volume by 13%.

Now Belarusian sugar producers are exploring markets of Central Asia- in Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. According to Belgospischeprom, the Belarusian Sugar Company was set up in Kirgizstan for sugar sales in that market.

According to the statistics, in 2006 the overall sugar output in Belarus amounted to 814 thousand tons, that is by 5.8% less than in 2005. Meanwhile, 350 thousand tons of the output was produced from sugar beetroot.
