Belarus, Russia Have Different Ideas of Union – Lukashenko
01/31/2007 - 12:09 / ITAR-TASSBelarus and Russia have different ideas about their union, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a Tuesday meeting with Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov.
“They say that I am ruining the union of Belarus and Russia and I am the main enemy. That’s fiction. Let us take a look at the Union treaty and see who has done what,” he said.
A constitutional act referendum was due last year, Lukashenko said. “But they do not need that. They have suggested making the Russian ruble a common currency. Then they suggested incorporating Belarus into Russia,” he said.
Disagreements between Belarus and Russia have nothing to do with the Russian people, Lukashenko said. “There will be no deviation from the historical course,” he said.
