One of the interesting features of the Russia-Georgia conflict has been the sluggish support Russia has received from its allies. Perhaps most notable has been the reaction in Minsk, where the government of President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has acted ambivalently and still appears to be vacillating over the wisest course of action.

Belarus to Invite Russian Company to Buy Stakes in Oil Transporters

The Belarusian government finds it advisable to invite the Russian company Transneft to participate in the privatization of its state oil transporting companies, the Druzhba Navapolatsk oil transport national unitary company and the Homeltransnafta Druzhba national unitary company, whose shares are to be sold in 2009, a source from the government has told the Interfax-West news agency.
