The Belarusian Popular Front (BNF) on February 10 discussed the political context of the opposition's rally scheduled in Minsk for March 25 to mark the anniversary of the shortlived 1918 Belarusian People's Republic, Belapan reported. "We view the present strategic situation as a new one," BNF leader Vintsuk Vyachorka said. "This concerns both the economy and the degree of unity among the present governing elite and the position of Belarus in the international arena.

Belarusian officials are recently bringing up the topic of necessity of creating new version of the “Law on Press”, and also introduction of the norms, regulating activity of the Internet editions. The Minister Mr. Uladzimir Rusakevich told about plans to introduce changes into the Law, which are going to regulate journalist work in the Internet. And according to the Head of Parliamentary Commission on human rights, national relations and mass media Mr. Yury Kulakouski, the necessity in new statutory act has matured.

A crackdown on youth organizations opposing the authoritarian rule of Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko continued with more arrests of teenagers, the Belapan news agency reported Monday. Police officers and KGB agents raiding a private house outside the Belarusian capital Minsk and locations nearby over the weekend arrested more than 30 members of the banned student political group Zadzninochanne Belaruskikh Studentau (ZBS).
