UPDATE 3-Belarus slaps duty on Russian oil exports
01/04/2007 - 13:15 / Reuters Belarus slapped big new charges on Russian oil crossing its territory on Wednesday, causing headaches for refiners in northern Europe and further unravelling Belarus' once cordial ties with the Kremlin. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko -- described by Washington as Europe's last dictator -- imposed transit duty of $45 per tonne on Russian oil in retaliation for Moscow cutting subsidies on energy supplies to Belarus. One million barrels of oil a day, or about a fifth of Russian exports, pass through Belarus. Most of that crude goes to refiners in Poland and Germany. comments: 0
Belarus is doomed. It will be devoured by marauders…
01/04/2007 - 01:49 / http://3dway.org/node/5019 Belarusian authorities will never give up their money. If Russia charges 100 USD, they will definitely add 50 USD. If the price is 300 USD than common Belarusians will pay 300 USD. Russia will be the one to be blamed. All of these could have been expected: Belarusian budget is being recalculated now and one billion USD is to be added to so-called “President’s reserve fund”. More money will come from taxes and “holes” in social programs. comments: 0
